COME AS YOU ARE
« I want each photograph to be a world on its own, an immersive world where the separation between scenography and real life becomes faded. »
Laetitia Bica had been putting her thoughts into writing for ten years, before moving on to photography. She engages us all in an endless, rich, ongoing conversation that goes hand in hand with staging and co-creation. She emphasises this ‘co’, because nothing can be accomplished on one’s own. With her, it’s generous. There’s not a single hint of elitism. Her door is wide open, everybody is welcome.
This exhibition is an invitation, right from the start. An invitation to form a community, to take a stance in a shared space, a space for encounters. An invitation to fit in, to be part of an intimate narrative. Together, they create the voice of an asserted and common humanity.
Residency
For an entire month, Laetitia Bica set up a photo studio on the fourth floor of MAD Brussels. However, it was much more than just a photo studio: it was a place for sharing and creating. It was a safe place, where everyone had the right to express themselves and to pose before the photographer’s lens. Dressed in clothes by Belgian designers, which felt like a second skin. Nothing was set in stone beforehand, and nothing will be afterwards. Laetitia Bica allows herself the freedom to interact with her model, cherishing the art of performance, make-up and special effects which reveal but never conceal.
She engages with all the senses.
